“How are you so lucky?”
I love asking this question.
Whenever I asked myself “Why are you so lucky,” I was always able to find a bit more evidence. Just like the gratitude practice—the more you do it, the happier it feels.
Perhaps there’s some confirmation bias. I care more about the outcome and feeling and will let philosophers and scientists argue out the reasoning. 😉
“You are so privileged to think that way.”
Yes, I am. And you can too.
This is not to deny the demographic luck that was seeded at birth.
We all know the world is unfair. In fact, Malcom Gladwell, Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio each see luck as some versions of “being born at the right time and the right place.”
This is to empower you to take the power back and create luck on your own.
Believe me, once you start believing you are lucky, luck starts to unfold in life.
Now I want to share my definition of luck with you.
“Luck is when preparations meet opportunities.”
Six months ago, I wrote this piece on how you can create luck. Today I want to elaborate on the third point: Take risks. Step into the unknown.
When we get stuck into the status quo, we tame ourselves and give in to fear. Living the same day every day won’t give you the lucky break.
If I didn’t take the risk to come to the States, I wouldn’t meet all the many amazing people in life.
If I didn’t take the risk to go on many dates, I wouldn’t know that Chris is actually a great fit.
If I didn’t take the risk to share my life values online, I wouldn’t attract the team that I am so thankful to have today.
Just as Glennon Doyle said in Untamed, “The braver I am, the luckier I get.”
Tomorrow I’m going to share about how you can use bravery to create luck.
Here’s what we covered in the past week-ish:
Power moves: Influence without authority, Want Executive Presence?, How to speak up during meetings?, How to start your VIP conversation?
Facing Fear: Define Your Fears, Face Your Fears, Dear Loneliness #3, Dear Loneliness #2
